-What vaccination has my puppy had?

I like to wait until puppies go home date, when the mothers antibodies have had a better chance of being worn off before I give the first set of vaccinations. You will need to take them for their 2nd set 4 weeks from pick up date or when your vet suggests but make sure they don't have vaccine at health exam or your pup will be over vaccinated and can get sick. We worm our pups starting at 2 weeks old. At their first vet check up their hearts, dentition, eyes, scrotum (if applies) is all thoroughly checked.

What does puppy go home with?

Goody Bag To Go

Taught to go Outside to Potty

At the age of four-weeks we start training the babies to go outdoors in a closed in area on a routine schedule. By the time they are seven-weeks, they know the routine.

Puppy Health Chart.

Each puppy comes with a health chart record.  The health record shows what your puppy was given and on pick-up day we will go over all details.

Wormed

Our puppies' are wormed at 2,3, 4,6,8, weeks and 10 and 12 weeks when with us and will require a fecal exam as per your contract to see if another treatment is needed by your vet.

Are you a puppy mill or kennel?

We are AKC accredited breeders, but we are NOT a puppy mill or kennel. We strongly believe that proper socialization cannot be achieved in a kennel-type environment.

We are simply a family that loves Goldens who care for them as members of our own family. Our mission and top priority is to breed for temperament, health, and beauty.

-Where are your puppies raised?

Golden Retriever Puppies Should Be Raised in A Home

Our Golden Retriever puppies are born & raised in our master bathroom/family/living room areas in our home.  In the beginning, the first 3 weeks they are in a Whelping Box/Kiddie pool as it has been the best option for keeping a clean environment, best for Mom to get in and out, and the puppies are safe in their area.   Subsequently, at 3 weeks, we move the puppies to our puppy room.  Their playpen is an approximately 4′ x 6′ playpen where the puppies can see and hear everything around them, however we do use blankets to give them a closed in space for resting.  That location offers our puppies optimum opportunities for socialization which is a necessity for puppies at this stage of their life.   As a result, the puppies are exposed to most household noises that await them with their new family. Finally, our Golden Retriever puppies are ready for their new homes at approximately 7 -8 weeks old.

-What about temperament testing? Do you Temperament test your puppies?

Please see our Temperament Testing page. I spend my time focusing on what I can work on while they are with me and training them to eat and go outdoors to the restroom. They are on a schedule routine At 7 weeks which you will need to continue to keep them fully potty trained. They will have a great start as we do everything we can while they are in our care to prepare them for transitioning to their new homes. I discontinued temperament testing after learning over time it takes away from giving them the time and training I want to work on and they change when they go home so I believe it is more important to work on what is needed. They are babies so you need to love them and give them time for adjustment. You should enroll in training near you to make this the best experience for all.

-Do you breed back to back?

We have changed our breeding policy on whether to breed back to back or every other heat. There have been several studies done on what is healthier for a breeding female and the results of these studies conclusively show that it is healthier for a female to be bred every heat instead of every other heat. The majority opinion amongst both veterinarians (including ours) as well as canine repro specialists is conclusively, that this is the healthiest option. We do not believe that because you breed every heat that you should continue to breed as long as those that don’t breed every heat, which means that our breeding females retire earlier than those breeders that breed every other heat. Our girls are usually retired by 6 years old and spayed. While it is healthier to breed every heat we also think that breeders need to use common sense and make sure that their females are back to a healthy weight before breeding again, as well as, judging on a case by case knowing what is right for your female and her health so there is exceptions and we retire with good judgement for our girls individually.

-Your golden's look amazing, can we visit them?

Thank you to those who want to visit our home.  We work hard to create an environment that works for us, our pups, and adults. You may have read that a good breeder will allow you into their home/facility. Many people question if they can pick out, see, or play with the puppies before they are ready to go at 8 weeks old. The answer to the question is NO. There are several reasons why we do not let anyone around the new puppies between birth and 8 weeks – all to protect our dogs and your puppy.

It is extremely stressful for the moms to have strangers visit as she is caring for her new litter. This in turn will put stress on the new born pups. Remember, you are one of many people who are getting a puppy, not including everyone else who “just want to peek at the new babies.” If we allow everyone to see, touch, or spend time with the new pups, the moms routine would be disrupted: her eating and caring for pups and even her ability to produce enough healthy milk for them could be at risk.

Like a new baby, the opportunity for young pups to pick up infectious diseases is increased with all new contacts. Their immune systems are building, so at this time, the moms and pups live in whelping nests which have controlled temperatures and are separate from all outside traffic. Most illnesses and diseases are innocently carried on people’s shoes and clothing. Entire litters of puppies can be wiped out within 48 hours by the puppy killer parvo virus. This disease could be picked up unknowingly by people in a school yard, a park, or on a sidewalk, and this is only one disease. We can not risk exposing our dogs and your puppy to diseases that could destroy them.

Your puppy is not the only puppy. By protecting all of our puppies from stress and disease that could be brought on by high traffic, we are protecting your puppy. Just think about how you would feel if someone who just wanted to see his or her pup happened to bring in stress or illness that would cause us to lose a litter and you to lose your future puppy.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. We take great care and much time caring for all of our dogs and their puppies. It is time and energy consuming. This is what we do best, so please let us do it. We understand your excitement, and we are happy that you are enthusiastic about getting your pup. But until you take your puppy home, we are responsible and the puppy’s health and safety is our priority. I guarantee you that in 8 weeks after the birth it will be well worth your wait.

To help you stay connected with the puppies journey from birth to going to your home, every litter has a closed facebook group that I update with pics and videos until they are ready for you to visit. Additionally, we do this so that you see what’s going on without compromising our bio-security for our puppies and our pack. But please, we ask you to honor our program (and ultimately, your puppies) by respecting our policy.

-Do you ship puppies?

We do prefer you fly and meet us at DFW International Airport if at all possible for a delivery rate of $300 and require they are in cabin with youFlying can be very hard on a puppy, so we recommend arranging pickup if at all possible. All fees are at your expense and due when delivery is reserved to allow for everything to be processed. Special deliveries are quoted at time of arrangements and puppy must be paid in full prior to delivery and we need to know 6 weeks in advance to schedule.  PLEASE CONTACT US FOR CONSIDERATION.

-Would a male or female be a better choice for me?

One of your first considerations when selecting a male or female puppy should be the weight and height of an adult Golden Retriever. Males measure about 23 – 24 inches (58-61 cm) in height at withers (shoulder) and weigh approximately 65 to 95 lbs. Females stand 21-1/2 – 22-1/2 inches (55-57 cm) at the withers and weigh approximately 55 to 75 pounds at maturity. The difference in temperament of a male and a female is rather subtle.

Thank you for considering our puppies for your family! We want to make the process of reserving a puppy as easy as possible for you. To secure your spot in line for our next litter, all we ask is for you to send us the application and a $500 reservation list fee via Zelle. Once received we email the Puppy Deposit Receipt and we will add you to our wait list and keep you updated on any available puppies.

We strive to make the process of choosing  your new furry family member as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns about our process. We look forward to helping you find the perfect addition to your family!
